David is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Psychotherapist with 38 years counselling experience. This includes counselling in Hospitals, Sexual Health, Rehabilitation, Schools, Employment Assistance, community agencies and in private practice, with children, adults, couples and families.

Working as a counsellor with a trauma focus, David works with people of all ages and backgrounds.  He has worked in the areas of torture, sexual abuse, domestic violence, loss and grief, critical incident management, cultural displacement, and other difficult life issues.

He believes that recovery from trauma restores a sense of dignity and justice and allows for more control over one’s life. This occurs when traumatic experiences can be transformed by a deeper understanding of the specific trauma and its consequential impacts on the body.  When people are able to better manage these impacts, the mind can often heal itself.

David is able to see clients with a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP or paediatrician, who are then eligible for a rebate under Medicare.

David’s engaging and grounded approach assists clients to gain the knowledge and skills to achieve meaningful solutions to problems. Interventions are designed to make sense and make a difference.

  • Strengths focused counselling
  • Hypnosis
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
  • In Vivo Imaginary CBT
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Relaxation & Mindfulness training

Heartful Counselling and Breathwork sessions 

For individuals and for those in any kind of relationship, to support you to tend to anything that's in the way of living your life fully, authentically and in alignment with who you really are.

Available some days in-person at Hobart Breathing Space, and other days online, sessions are 90 minutes long and cost $150
